Sports betting in Sweden is regulated by the Lotteries Act 1994 and is conducted by Svenska Spel.

The sports betting monopoly faced a decline in revenue in 2008 due to competition from online betting firms, which resulted in legal action and a challenge to the constitutionality of Swedish gaming law. The Swedish government is working on legislation to liberalize the gaming market and is under legal pressure from the EU Commission as well.
